When and How Does a Fall Alert Reach Staff in a Nursing Home?
When the patrol robot's photo shows a fall candidate, a KakaoTalk notification (Alimtalk) goes to the responsible staff member's phone. The delivery time once a fall is detected is within 30 seconds. Here is what that delivery time measures, what the alert contains, and where alerts cannot reach.

When a fall candidate is detected, a KakaoTalk notification (Alimtalk) goes to the responsible staff member's phone. The delivery time once a fall is detected is within 30 seconds. But this delivery time does not start at the moment of the fall. It is the time from detection in the photo to delivery to the responsible staff member.
When care facilities evaluate fall alerts, the first question they ask is "How fast does the alert arrive?" Based on our nursing home fall alert AI robot, here is the order in which alerts arrive, what they contain, and how far they reach.
How does it find a fall candidate?
It finds people in the photos taken during patrol, and if a person is lying or slumped on the floor rather than on a bed or chair, it reports a fall candidate. The AI judges the photos the robot takes while on patrol.
As the name says, it is a "candidate." It is a request to check and may differ from what actually happened. It does not judge the cause of the fall or the person's physical condition. It makes no medical judgment. Checking and responding are done by staff.
What does the delivery time measure?
The delivery time once a fall is detected is within 30 seconds. Here, the delivery time is the time from detection in the photo to delivery to the responsible staff member.
| Interval | Included in the delivery time? |
|---|---|
| From the moment of the fall until the robot passes that spot and takes a photo | Not included |
| From detecting a fall candidate in the photo to delivery to the staff member's phone | Included — the delivery time once a fall is detected is within 30 seconds |
| From the staff member receiving the alert to going to the scene and checking | Not included (depends on the facility's response procedure) |
So the actual time from "a fall to a staff member arriving" depends on when the robot passes that spot and on who goes after receiving the alert. Before adoption, it matters more to settle the first and third intervals together than the second.
What does the alert contain?
We notify you by Alimtalk. A link for viewing the detection photo goes with the Alimtalk. The photo file is not attached to the message; you tap the link to check the detection photo.
The alert goes to registered staff. And the floor, location and time the photo was taken are recorded. Later you can look back at which floor, where, and at what time something was detected.
Where do alerts not reach?
Places and times the robot does not pass (such as inside rooms) are not seen. Because it works from photos taken during patrol, it cannot know what happens where no photo is taken. Those places need to be planned for together with other methods. The situations each method tends to miss are set out in Fall detection: how do you choose between sensors, mats, video and patrol robots?
And if the robot patrols less, what it can see shrinks accordingly. So we tell you the next day about days when patrol photos were few or missing. This is patrol gap monitoring.
Does it prevent falls?
It does not prevent falls. It is an aid that helps staff notice quickly after someone has fallen. Fall prevention activities need to be planned separately.
Frequently asked questions
Is the delivery time measured from the moment of the fall?
No. The delivery time is not measured from the moment of the fall; it is the time from detection in the photo to delivery to the responsible staff member. The delivery time once a fall is detected is within 30 seconds. A fall cannot be known before the robot passes that spot and takes a photo.
How do we receive alerts?
We notify you by Alimtalk. A link for viewing the detection photo goes with the Alimtalk. Alerts go to registered staff.
Can an alert be wrong?
It is a request to check and may differ from what actually happened. That is why staff check on site after receiving an alert.
Can it tell if someone falls inside a room?
Places and times the robot does not pass (such as inside rooms) are not seen. Those places are planned for together with other methods.
How do we know about a day when the robot could not patrol?
We tell you the next day about days when patrol photos were few or missing.
Next step
You can see first how an alert actually arrives in a remote demo. If you decide in advance which staff will receive alerts and what the response order will be after an alert, it is easier to set the scope of the demo.
